Spanish Wine : FIVE STARS

Wine Label Wine Review

2004 Quinta de la Quietud Toro

"Brilliant dark black purple tones. An elevated ruby fruit and cedar nose. Dark fruit flavors, explosive on the palate with a subtle plumpness and a burley old vine core. Brimming with prime fruits branching into complex rich layers. Let this wine breathe, and the burley core is toned and more refined with intricate deep layers of prodigal and intensely rich fruits. An incredibly balanced finish. This Spanish delight easily earns a Five star rating.

Rare Chardonnay Five Stars!

Wine Label Tasting Notes
2007 Landmark Vineyards Chardonnay Damaris Reserve Sonoma County
"($40) Green-gold. Powerful aromas of orchard fruits, orange, sweet butter, lily of the valley and smoky lees, plus a strong undercurrent of iodine; smells like a serious, old-school Chassagne-Montrachet. Round and fleshy, with deep, smoky pear, sweet citrus and licorice flavors and slow-building spiciness. The smoky and floral qualities resonate on the finish, which is impressively incisive and long."
93 points--Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

"Rich, unctuous and full-bodied, with tiers of ripe apricot, melon, fig and citrus flavors that are intense without being heavy, ending with a dash of smoky oak. Drink now through 2016. 2,000 cases made."
92 points--James Laube, Wine Spectator

"The light gold-colored 2007 Chardonnay Damaris Reserve is sourced from Sangiacomo (89%) and Lorenzo (11%). It exhibits a beautifully scented nose of honeysuckle, caramelized orange rind, peaches, apricots, and subtle background oak. Full-bodied with outstanding purity and richness as well as a nicely layered texture, this is a lovely effort from proprietors Mike and Mary Calhoun. It should drink well for 3-4 years given its acid profile. Winemaker Eric Stern judiciously uses wood as a complementary seasoning, which is evident in all these Chardonnays."

Pinot Noir : FIVE STARS

Wine Label Wine Reviews
2007 Baker Lane Vineyards Pinot Noir Ramondo Vineyard Sonoma Coast

"Bright medium red. Spicy redcurrant and strawberry on the nose, with sexy floral and mineral qualities adding complexity. Musky cherry and red berry flavors are given spine by juicy acidity and fine-grained tannins, which add back-end grip. Stretches out with air, becoming broader and sweeter on the long, sappy finish."

Wine Label Wine Review

2007 Chad Merlot Beau Terroir Carneros

"Deep, purple tones. Inviting hints of freshly picked dark fruits. Expansive on the palette . Lots of weight and fruit intensity. Excellent vibrant finish speaking of Doug Hill's farming and this remarkably drawn out, cool but dry vintage in Carneros. Drink now for the sheer hedonistic juiciness or age for 5 years."

Chardonnay 93 points Under $30

Wine Label Wine Review

2007 The Ojai Vineyard Chardonnay Clos Pepe Santa Rita Hills

"Yellow-gold. Musky peach pit and mango aromas are complicated by zesty, smoky minerals. Tightly focused citrus and dried pit fruit flavors gain a gentle sweetness and put on weight with air, picking up a juicy mango quality. Firm finishing notes of bitter pear skin, tarragon and minerals give this wine a serious aspect. I'd hold off on opening this impressively concentrated wine for another couple of years."

Wine Reviews Pinot Noir

Wine Label Tasting Notes
2007 The Ojai Vineyard Pinot Noir
Clos Pepe Vineyard Santa Rita Hills

"Deep, bright red. Vibrant aromas of red berries, cherry and blood orange, with complicating notes of flowers and minerals. Fleshy, succulent raspberry and cherry preserve flavors are enlivened by zesty minerality and given depth by a slow-building, sweet cola quality. Turns more tangy and powerful on the finish, which leaves fresh redcurrant and raspberry notes behind. I like this wine's blend of vivacity and power."

"The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard Select is superior from bottle than it was from cask. A wine of balance and impeccable purity, it represents a California version of a fictional blend of a top-notch Pauillac and St.-Julien. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of black currants, earth, tobacco leaf, licorice, and plums, a sweet attack, a pure mid-section, and a medium to full-bodied, persistent finish displaying faultless harmony. It will drink well for 15 years."

Five Star Syrah 45% off TODAY ONLY!

Wine Label Tasting Notes
2006 Ramey Wine Cellars Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast
"Deep, bright ruby. Highly expressive bouquet of blackcurrant and boysenberry, with sexy floral and spice notes adding vivacity. Lively red and dark fruit flavors gain an exotic floral quality with air and become spicier on the back end. Impressively vibrant syrah, with excellent finishing clarity and sweet persistence. As with the barrel samples of '07 that I also tasted, this is more energetic than the Shanel."
94 points--Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

"The dense opaque purple-hued 2006 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard offers aromas of melted chocolate, ground pepper, exotic peach and lychee nuts (5% Viognier is co-fermented), and an earthy, blackberry, smoky mid-palate as well as finish. Enjoy this superb Syrah over the next decade."
